Former CFL Player Dexter Janke Joins Rebels Coaching Staff

Victoria, BC, Canada – March 8, 2020 – As the Westshore Rebels get ready for Spring Camp, which will be held May 29-31, Head Coach Shane Beatty has not only been recruiting players but coaches for the 2020 season. The Rebels were excited to announce today that the new Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator is former CFL Defensive Back and Grey Cup recipient Dexter Janke.

Coach Beatty met Dexter in 2014 when he was playing for the Okanagan Sun and Beatty was the Head Coach. In 2015 Janke was selected to the CFL in the 5th round by the Calgary Stampeders where he played for 3 years. In 2019 he was picked up by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and won a Grey Cup championship.

Recently released from the Blue Bombers Janke has decided to turn his passion for football into a coaching career where he can now give back to other inspiring players.

“The BCFC has helped me accomplish my dreams. I am grateful for the opportunity to come back and help others advance themselves and take steps towards their goals. The love I’ve received from the Greater Victoria community has always made Victoria feel like home. I’m looking forward to joining an organization full of great people and contributing to the growth of island football in any way that I can,” says Janke.

The Westshore Rebels lost in the 2019 Cullen Cup to the Langley Rams and are on a mission to build an even stronger team this season.

“Having another former CFL player on our coaching staff is exciting for our players and prospects. Dexter is not only a great player but a great human being and can provide guidance on and off the field to our young players. I am stoked he has decided to make Victoria and the Rebels his home,” states Beatty.
