Dexter Janke, Westshore Rebels Head Coach

The Westshore Rebels in conjunction with our Title Sponsor, Viking Properties are excited to announce the signing of Dexte Janke as the new Head Coach and Assistant General Manager.

Janke attended high school in Edmonton, Alberta prior to accepting an athletic scholarship from 2010-2013 as a Running Back with the University of Saskatchewan. In 2014 Janke played for the Okanagan Sun, as a Free Safety. He was named BCFC All-Star and represented BC at the CFL Combine. He was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders, where he played from 2015-2017, playing in 1 Western Final and 2 Grey Cup Finals. In 2018, Janke was named to Team Canada’s Bobsled squad and competed on the World Cup circuit.

In 2019, Dexter’s CFL career culminated with a Grey Cup Championship with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Following a successful career in the CFL, Janke moved to Victoria in 2020, where he has assumed various roles with the Westshore Rebels program, including Assistant Head Coach, Special Teams Coordinator and Secondary Coach.

“Dexter’s work ethic, integrity, professionalism, and knowledge of the game has and will continue to be a tremendous asset to our program, our community, and mission to develop high performing athletes and lifelong values and skills”, says President, Rob Lervold.

“With years of experience playing University, Junior and Professional football, Dexter brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience and is highly respected by players, volunteers and executive,” states Roger Wade, GM.

“I couldn’t be more excited to accept this position as Head Coach and Assistant General Manager for the Westshore Rebels. I look forward to building and upholding an environment of consistent structure, discipline, and respect. Having a supportive and committed team President and GM in Rob Lervold and Roger Wade, made this an easy decision for myself and my family. My family and I are excited to call Langford home for the foreseeable future,” says Dexter.

About Westshore Rebels

The Westshore Rebels are a Canadian Junior Football team based in Langford, British Columbia. The Rebels play in the six-team BC Football Conference, which itself is part of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and competes annually for the national title known as the Canadian Bowl. The club has operated continuously since the late 1960s in Victoria, having previously been known as the Sharks, Payless, and the Hornets.
